One Million Photos of the British Isles
The Geograph British Isles project "aims to collect geographically representative photographs and information for every square kilometre of Great Britain and Ireland". It's a volunteer project to create a freely-licensed historical and educational resource, and they've just passed the impressive milestone of a cool one million photographs.
Guess what? There's a few photos relating to our favourite Northumbrian castle.
The project began in the spring of 2005, and has built up a fantastic momentum. It's taken just three and a half years for 7,500 contibutors to collect over million photos. Hats off to them!
The photos are available for re-use under a Creative Commons license, so I couldn't resist including some in our Featherstone Castle gallery section.
So check out the Geograph British Isles project website, and please consider contributing some of your own photos to the project.
